CREATIVE FREEDOM SESSIONS
Let Go of Perfect.
What might you create if you stopped trying to get it right?
No experience needed · Use what you have · Small live group

THIS ISN’T A TRADITIONAL ART WORKSHOP
I'm not going to show you how to make my picture.
In many art workshops, the artist demonstrates a technique or creates an image and everyone else follows along.
Creative Freedom Sessions work differently.
I’ll give you prompts, constraints and opportunities to change direction — but what you make will be yours.
You might see something you liked. Paint over something you didn’t. Change hands. Add another layer. Take something away. Respond to what is happening rather than trying to force the picture towards a result you had planned.
Because the interesting part isn’t whether your work looks like mine.
It’s what happens when you start trusting your own response to what is in front of you.
I’m creating the conditions for you to discover what you might make.
THE FIRST CREATIVE FREEDOM SESSION
Perfect can stop us before we even begin.
Sometimes it’s the first mark.
Sometimes it comes halfway through.
And sometimes we simply don’t know what to do next, so we stop.
In Let Go of Perfect, we’ll experiment with doing the opposite.
We’ll make marks. Change direction. Cover things over. Add another layer. Respond to what appears.
And we’ll discover something that can be surprisingly freeing:
Nothing has to be precious. Nothing has to be permanent.
If something doesn’t work, we can change it.
And if we really hate it?
It’s only a picture. We can start again.

Creativity isn’t about being perfect. It’s about allowing yourself to express, explore & simply enjoy the process.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SESSION
A little structure. Plenty of room to respond.
We’ll begin with a short guided visualisation to help you step out of the day and into your creative space.
From there, I’ll introduce a series of simple prompts and constraints designed to get you making rather than planning.
You might work with a limited palette. Make only a certain number of marks. Switch hands. Cover part of what you’ve made. Add something unexpected. Change direction before you feel ready.
We’ll work in short creative bursts, with time to pause, notice what is happening and decide what you want to respond to next.
There will also be space at the end to reflect — and, if you want to, share something about what you discovered.

There is no finished picture you’re expected to produce. The experience is the point.

WHO THIS IS FOR
You don’t need to call yourself an artist.
You’re completely new to creating.
You're curious, but you may not have made much before – or perhaps you've never thought of yourself as creative.
You’re returning after a break.
You used to make things, but somewhere along the way life, confidence or habit got in the way.
You already create — but you overthink it.
You hesitate, second-guess your next move, worry about ruining things or feel stuck trying to get it right.
This isn’t about skill level. It’s about readiness.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Use what you have. Nothing precious.
You don’t need a studio full of materials or expensive supplies.
Bring whatever you already enjoy using — acrylics, watercolour, gouache, pastels, charcoal, pencils, collage materials or a mixture of things.
You’ll need something to work on too: paper, card, a sketchbook, an inexpensive panel or another surface you’re happy to experiment with.
In fact, for this session I’d actively encourage you not to use anything too precious.
It’s much easier to take a risk, cover something over or change direction when you’re not worrying about wasting your best paper or ruining an expensive canvas.
The aim is to give yourself room to experiment.

WHY I CREATED THESE SESSIONS
I’m interested in what happens when we stop trying to make the right thing.
I’ve spent much of my creative life learning to trust what happens when I stop trying to control the outcome.
As an abstract artist, I’m fascinated by the way a picture develops through response — one mark, one layer and one decision leading to the next.
As a therapist and creative mentor, I’ve also seen how quickly perfectionism, self-doubt and the need for validation can interrupt that process.
Creative Freedom Sessions bring those two parts of my work together — not as therapy, and not as a traditional art lesson, but as a space to experiment, respond and discover what happens when you give yourself a little more freedom.
You won’t be asked to make what I make. I’ll help create the conditions for you to discover what you might make.

A FEW QUESTIONS
Wondering if this is for you?
Yes. You’ll have access to the replay for 7 days after the live session.
Creative Freedom Sessions are lighter, more practical creative practice sessions. They’re designed to help you make, respond and experiment in the moment, rather than explore one deeper emotional theme over a longer workshop.
READY WHEN YOU ARE
You don’t have to know what you’re going to make.
You just need somewhere to begin.
Bring your materials, your curiosity and whatever creative confidence you have today.
We’ll take it from there.
